BTS’ J-Hope Has Become The Second Band Member To Enlist In South Korea’s Military Service

BTS member J-Hope has begun South Korea’s mandatory military service, becoming the second member of the K-pop boy band to enlist after Jin.

29-year-old J-Hope, whose full name is Jung Ho-seok, reported to a military base in Wonju on Tuesday April 18.

He shared photos of him with a freshly-shaven head onto his various social media accounts, with the caption “I’ll have a good trip!!” on Instagram.

The band also shared photos of them sending J-Hope off, with Jin joining in his military uniform.

In December last year, Jin, the oldest member of BTS, became the first to enlist.

All able-bodied South Korean men aged between 18 and 28 must serve in the military for about 20 months and cut their hair in a buzzcut style.

The band had postponed mandatory military service until they turned 30 after South Korea changed its law in 2020 to allow globally recognized K-pop stars to defer their service.

BTS’ members are expected to reunite as a group again around 2025 following their respective service commitments.
