The most severe drought on record has left many rivers in southwestern China dry, unveiling statues and building and leading people to take the opportunity to take some unique photos.
Alongside the Yangtze river in Chongqing, concrete breakwater blocks have emerged due to the high temperatures and little rain.
The almost art-like installation has appealed to many, leading people to dress up and go to extraordinary lengths to climb on the concrete blocks to take Instagrammable photos.
During the summer, China experienced record high temperatures causing the Yangtze river – which provides 400 million people in China with drinking water – to dry up.
The drought has also wrecked havoc on hydropower systems, particularly in regions like Sichuan, which gets more than 80% of its energy from hydropower, according to the Guardian.
At least 2.46 million people have been affected by the drought, with high temperatures in July causing 2.74 billion yuan (US$398 million) in direct economic losses, officials said, the Guardian reported.
Chinese officials have issued drought warnings that are expected to continue well into September.
