England’s dream of bringing the World Cup home has been destroyed after it lost 2-1 to France on Dec. 10, but the team are not going home empty-handed.

Players Kyle Walker and John Stones have adopted a stray cat from Qatar.

The two had spotted the cat, named Dave, on the first day as they were sitting at a table at England’s training base in Al Wakrah.

Dave was a regular at the team’s camp and became an unofficial mascot for England.

The team then started calling him “Big Dave” as Dave kept getting bigger from the team feeding him every day.

Initially, the players had agreed were only bringing Dave back with them if they won the World Cup but grew too fond of him, according to the Guardian.

Dave has since made visits to the veterinary clinic and obtained the necessary tests and vaccinations in order to fly to England.

He will reunite with his owners in about four months after spending time in quarantine.

It remains uncertain who will take ownership of Dave, either Walker or Stones or the entire England team.

One thing is for sure — he’s coming home.
