How To Help Palestinians In Gaza

More than 9,000 Palestinians have now been killed in Gaza by Israeli airstrikes and 1.4 million people have lost their homes.

Here are just a few ways you can help.

1. Educate yourself

Research and read up on the history behind the Palestine and Israel states.

Learn about the Israeli occupation and its human rights abuses against the Palestinians that human rights experts say constitute apartheid.

Educating yourself will stop you from spreading harmful narratives and help you persuade local leaders to act.

2. Be mindful what you share

Social media is inundated with misinformation about the war between Israel and Hamas.

Just because a Palestinian supporter shared a video or statistic, it doesn’t mean it’s true. Just because an Israeli supporter shared it, it also doesn’t mean it’s true.

Always double check the sources.

3. Contact public officials

The International community plays a massive role in helping humanitarian aid to reach Gaza and holding parties accountable for any human rights violations.

Write to or contact your local representatives to call for humanitarian aid and promote peace in the region.

4. Protest

People all around the world are taking to the streets in mass protests calling for a ceasefire, with a million showing up in Istanbul and half a million in London.

You, too, can join a local protest and add pressure on global leaders to take action to call for peace.

5. Sign petitions

Several humanitarian and human rights organizations, such as Amnesty International, have started petitions to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and for aid to enter.

Signing a petition is an easy way to add your voice to the collective calls for action from world leaders.

6. Donate to aid organizations

Gaza’s population is in dire need of humanitarian assistance as Israel has blocked food, water, electricity and fuel.

According to the UN, 100 trucks of humanitarian supplies per day are needed to meet their needs.

Research and donate to reputable organizations that directly provide aid to Palestinians in Gaza such as Medical Aid for Palestinians, Save the Children and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

7. Support journalists reporting on-the-ground

Follow journalists who are reporting on-the-ground in Gaza and share their work.

You can help ensure the latest information gets out from Gaza and that the world learns about what’s happening.

You can also donate to buy eSIMs for the journalists, who are working in difficult conditions such as blackouts.

8. Boycott companies

Change can begin with the choices you make at the grocery store.

By supporting economic and cultural activism campaigns such as the boycott, divestment and sanction movement (BDS), you can contribute to global efforts putting pressure on enterprises and institutions profiting from the war or complicit in the oppression of Palestinians in Gaza.

Some companies you can target include Coca Cola, Starbucks, Mcdonalds, Puma, HP and Disney.
