A rugby match in New Zealand was interrupted when multiple people ran onto the field in succession during the final quarter.
The chaotic incident happened during a game between New Zealand’s Auckland Warriors and Australia’s Brisbane Broncos in Napier on the evening of Saturday May 27.
A viral TikTok video showed fans running onto the field one after another and being chased and tackled down by security guards.
The New Zealand Herald reported that more than 20 fans attempted or successfully dashed onto the field during the final quarter of the game, which the Broncos won 26-22.
The pitch invaders were met with both boos and applause from the crowd while an announcement called on spectators not to encourage them.
12 of the invaders were caught by security and handed over to the police.
However, police said they were only given warnings and not charged as they had their clothes on and thus did not qualify as “streakers”.
