A young Palestinian man has been captured sobbing uncontrollably while trying to call his friend who had been buried in the rubble in the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.

The heartbreaking moment was captured by Mohammed Al Masri, a Palestinian journalist who has been reporting live on-the-ground from Gaza, on Monday Nov. 20.

In the video, the man can be seen crying and shaking uncontrollably as he tries to steady his hands to dial his friend on his phone before he is comforted by others around him.

The video has since gone viral on Masri’s account and after it was reshared by prominent accounts such as @eye.on.palestine, where it gained more than 16 million views.

Israel’s relentless bombardment of Gaza has killed more than 14,000 Palestinians in Gaza since Oct. 7, when it declared war on Hamas after it launched a surprise attack on Israel and killed about 1,200 Israelis.

More than 5,500 of those killed in Gaza are children, according to Save the Children.
