Someone has chopped down the famous “Robin Hood” tree in the UK and people are furious.

The sycamore tree near Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland, England, was one of the most photographed trees in the country.

The tree, which is located in a dramatic dip in the landscape, is believed to be around 300 years old.

It appeared in a famous scene in the 1991 film “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” starring Kevin Costner.

On Thursday Sep 28, people discovered that the tree had been chopped down.

Authorities said it appeared to have been cut down with a chainsaw and believe that it was done deliberately.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection to the incident but has since been released on bail.

Police said they have also arrested a man in his 60s but added that the investigation is still in its early stages.

Authorities are now urging anyone with information to come forward.
